Both the readings of this week were interesting but I found Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper” more fascinating and thought-provoking at the same time. It is a story about an unnamed narrator who is going through the agonizing process of nervous breakdown. It is said that Gilman herself had to experience such a situation when she was prescribed “rest cure” by her Doctor which instead of curing her was worsening her mental health. It was hard but she came out of that messy condition and became fit enough to write this short story in order to inform the world about the superficiality of the “rest cure.”
